The Pierres Jaumâtres (Yellow Stones ) are a gravity-defying collection of some forty massive granite blocks stacked one on top of the other. These astonishing rock formations have intrigued visitors for centuries, and their mysterious appearance has given rise to many legends. Their very name, “Jaumâtres”, means “yellow stones”, in reference to the golden hue the rocks take on under certain lights.

According to legend, the site was once a sacrificial altar, a place where the druids celebrated their sacred ceremonies. George Sand herself, a great lover of the area, used to come here to stroll and contemplate these enigmatic blocks, as did Frédéric Chopin.
